Final Deliverable.

We're pretty happy with what we've developed by the end of the semester.  But it doesn't end here, or with us.  Visit: http://olinpoeprojects.wix.com/thingsthatmatter for more information!

For a breakdown of what we spent developing the prosthetic over the course of the semester, click here. If you're looking to build your own prosthetic, please visit Things That Matter (linked above) for a cost breakdown, or see the subsystem costs by going in depth into system breakdown.

Integrated final system on a 'user' - grasping a cup to take a sip.

Our final deliverable, a proof-of-concept for a below-the-elbow prosthetic which is controlled by a user's motion, costs approximately $170 in parts.   After 7 weeks of work, we were able to achieve a 'smart arm' which contextualizes a users motion, weighs 0.981 lbs and providesd tactile feedback to a user.

Big Picture.

General stats for our system:

Cost:   $170.00

Weight:   0.981 lb

Voltage Draw:   5V

Battery Life:   17 hrs

Charging Time:   6 - 10 hrs

Microcontroller: Arduino Nano

Arduino Ports Used:

  • D8, D9

  • A0, A1

  • SCL, SDA

  • 5V, GND

Sensors:

  • Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

  • Potentiometer (10k Trim Pot)

  • 3Axis Accelerometer

This was the leading structure which we based our model upon.
